Trucks are packed, family’s in tow, and you’re six hours into the journey to your new life. You pull up to your new home, take a deep breath, open the door… and stop cold.
Turns out, your new home already has a tenant—and it’s not you.
Overcoming Obstacles to a Good Story
This was the tough reality Julian Guzman faced. With his belongings in boxes, trucks in idle, and family looking on, he was locked out of the fresh start he was promised. While GoodStory hadn’t brokered this rental contract, we had connected Julian with the agent who did. So when his agent failed to answer his calls, Julian turned to us.
GoodStory had a great history with Juilian. Not only is Julian a pioneer in Canadian professional soccer, he’s also an international property investor and our cherished client. Back in 2017, when Julian relocated to Ottawa to play for Ottawa Fury FC, we helped him secure a highly profitable investment property—a single-family house in the Glebe, which was subsequently leased to diplomats. Soon after this successful transaction, we offered to help him find a smaller rental property he could call home.
To expand the property search, we connected him with a realtor outside of GoodStory. This is where the story takes a turn.
The property owner’s listing agent had failed to notify the owner that the deal had closed, so the property hadn’t been vacated. While the owner agreed to move out by the end of the following day, Julian and his entire family were left stranded. Our Ottawa Real Estate agent, Jen, acted quickly, creatively, and generously—booking multiple hotel rooms for them in downtown Ottawa. Julian and his family enjoyed their accommodations and moved into their property without incident the very next day.
We were honoured that Julian turned to us in his time of need. It didn’t matter that he was in Quebec, that we weren’t the agents responsible for his problem, or that the situation seemed beyond our control. The only thing that mattered was that Julian’s good story was in jeopardy, and we were committed to doing whatever it took to help.
We’ve continued to support Julian through a partnership that has been both rewarding and consistently profitable.
