A Morning at City Hall with Mayor Mark Sutcliffe, and a Reminder of Why We Chose Ottawa

There are certain moments that stay with you a little longer. This morning was one of them.
Being invited to City Hall and sitting in a room with people from so many different industries (non-profit leaders, entrepreneurs, and community builders) was a quiet reminder of something I’ve felt for a long time:
There is so much care for this city.

Not always expressed the same way.
Not always aligned.
But present. And that matters.

Why This Meant Something More
As a real estate team in Ottawa, we spend a lot of time thinking about how people live…where they choose to live, what they value in a neighbourhood, and how the city is evolving around them.

Sitting in that room, I found myself reflecting on the decision I made years ago to stay in Ottawa.
Like many people, I could have returned to my home country after completing my undergraduate studies.
And like many people, I wasn’t always sure, but moments like this have a way of reinforcing that decision. Because when you step back and look at the people shaping Ottawa…even in small ways…you start to realize that this city isn’t lacking potential. It’s simply in the process of becoming.

A Solutions-Focused Approach to Ottawa’s Growth
In conversations about city-building, it’s easy to focus on what isn’t working and while those conversations are important, what stayed with me most was something else: the opportunity we have to focus on solutions. On what we can build.
On how we can improve how people experience Ottawa in their everyday lives.
On how real estate, development, and community can come together in a more thoughtful way.
Because progress doesn’t come from identifying problems alone.
It comes from aligning around what’s possible.

Real Estate Is About More Than Property
At GoodStory, we’ve always believed that real estate in Ottawa is about more than buying and selling homes.
It’s about how people live.
How they connect.
How they experience their neighbourhoods and their city.
And in many ways, the same is true for Ottawa itself. Our city is shaped not just by development and policy, but by the people who care enough to participate, to show up, to contribute, and to collaborate.

The Privilege of Being Part of These Conversations
Being invited into that room was something we don’t take lightly. As an Ottawa real estate team, it’s an honour to be included in conversations that help shape how the city grows and evolves. It’s also a responsibility. A responsibility to listen, to contribute thoughtfully, and to stay grounded in what actually helps move things forward…for homeowners, for families, and for the broader community.

We’re grateful to be part of that!

Looking Ahead

Ottawa doesn’t need to become something else. It just needs to become the best version of what it already is.

And that happens step by step: through collaboration, thoughtful development, and a shared commitment to building a city where people truly want to live, work, and connect. We’re proud to be part of that story: Every city tells a story and we’re proud to be part of Ottawa’s.
