What Excellence in Real Estate Really Means

When Jenniffer Alvarenga was announced as this year’s recipient of the RE/MAX Award of Excellence, our team celebrated the recognition. But after the excitement settled, we found ourselves talking less about the award itself and more about what it represents. Awards come and go. The opportunity to earn someone’s trust is something far more meaningful. That’s what this recognition reminded us of.

The RE/MAX Award of Excellence recognizes REALTORS® who exemplify leadership, professionalism, integrity, community involvement, and an unwavering commitment to serving others. While we’re incredibly proud that Jen received this honour, we hope it represents something much bigger than one person or one team.

It represents the kind of profession we’re working to help build.

Excellence Isn’t Measured by Sales Alone

Real estate is often measured by numbers, transactions, volume and awards. Those things have their place, but they never tell the whole story.

To us, excellence isn’t measured by how many homes you sell. It’s measured by how many people would trust you to help guide one of the biggest decisions of their lives.

Many of the families we serve are balancing demanding careers as entrepreneurs, physicians, technology leaders, executives, business owners, senior government professionals, and investors. Others are relocating to Ottawa from across Canada and around the world, trying to choose the right home and neighbourhood from hundreds (or even thousands) of kilometres away.

What they all have in common isn’t their profession, it’s that they value their time, and they’re looking for someone they can trust completely.

Someone who will simplify the process, anticipate challenges before they arise, and help them make thoughtful decisions with confidence.

Trust Is the Highest Honour

The greatest compliment a REALTOR® can receive isn’t an award. It’s trust.

Families relocating to Ottawa have trusted our team to evaluate neighbourhoods, narrow hundreds of listings to the few that truly fit their lifestyle, coordinate tours, negotiate strategically, and oversee every detail until they arrived.

Sellers have confidently handed over the keys to their homes, trusting us to take it from there. From preparing the home for market and coordinating staging, photography, trades, cleaners, and movers, to managing every moving piece behind the scenes, we’ve often encouraged clients to step away from the stress of selling and simply return to a successfully sold home.

Every so often, we’re reminded just how meaningful trust can be. Over the years, families have purchased homes ranging from approximately $800,000 to more than $3 million without ever stepping inside, relying on our team to evaluate every detail as though we were helping one of our own family members make the decision. It’s a responsibility we never take lightly.

That kind of trust isn’t built through advertising. It’s earned over time through honest advice, thoughtful preparation, sound judgment and a genuine commitment to putting our clients’ interests ahead of our own in every decision we make.

The Work You Don’t Always See

A lot of what we do never makes it into a listing brochure or social media post.

While our clients are at work, with their families, or simply carrying on with everyday life, we’re behind the scenes coordinating the hundreds of details that come with buying and selling a home. That might mean preparing a property for market, organizing trades and movers, working with lawyers, inspectors and mortgage professionals, helping a family narrow down the right neighbourhood or schools, or finding a solution when something unexpected comes up.

Our goal is simple: to make the process feel lighter for the people trusting us to guide them through it.

That’s the kind of experience we set out to create when GoodStory was founded. Not because we wanted to become the biggest team, but because we believed people deserved something different. They deserved to feel cared for, listened to, and supported from beginning to end. They deserved a team that would treat their home, their investment, and their future with the same care we would if it were our own.

Before every recommendation we make, every strategy we develop, and every negotiation we enter, we try to answer one simple question: What’s genuinely best for this family?

Raising the Standard

One of the things we love most about this profession is that every day we have the opportunity to make someone’s life a little easier during a season that can often feel overwhelming. Families invite us into deeply personal moments. They trust us with their homes, their finances, their futures, and often the biggest transition they’ll ever make. That responsibility deserves our very best.

Our hope is that, as an industry, we continue raising the standard…not only in how we market homes, but in how we care for people. By leading with integrity, putting clients ahead of commissions, sharing knowledge with one another, investing in our communities, and remembering that every transaction represents someone’s life, not just another sale.

Ottawa deserves a real estate profession that people trust wholeheartedly. That’s the standard we strive for every day.

Thank You

For Jen and our team, receiving the RE/MAX Award of Excellence is a true honour, but what means the most to us are the people who made it possible.

To our clients, thank you for trusting us with some of life’s biggest decisions. Thank you for welcoming us into your homes, your stories, and your families. We never take that trust for granted.

To our GoodStory team, this recognition belongs to all of you. It’s the result of countless conversations, thoughtful decisions, late nights, and the genuine care you bring to every client we have the privilege of serving.

If there’s one thing we hope this award represents, it’s that our profession continues to move in a direction where people come first, trust matters more than transactions, and every family feels genuinely cared for.

That’s the kind of real estate industry we’re proud to be part of and one we’ll continue working to help build.
